AI Customer Support Software (2026): What the Category Includes
Support software is the desk, the AI, and the channels. If the phone is required, use the stack page. If you are shopping a chatbot, use the product page.
AI customer support software is the system that holds tickets, lets AI answer from your content, and sits on the channels customers already use. It is a category name. If callers are in scope, use the phone-required shortlists linked below instead of treating this page as another vendor gallery.
The name is an umbrella, not one stock-keeping unit (SKU) you can buy off a card. Public 2026 explainers split the same box into chatbots, agent assist (drafts for a human), voice AI, and agentic resolution (actions that close the request). A copilot add-on can win a help-desk request for proposal (RFP) and still leave the store number unanswered. This page stays on what has to be in the box; it does not rank vendors.
Guzli sells a published-plan version of that box for small ecommerce and wrote this page. This is desk research of public product pages, read 19 September 2026 — not a bake-off. Official pages used below: Fin pricing, Deploy Fin Voice, Zendesk on Forethought, Salesforce’s Fin close, Guzli /pricing/.
Salesforce completed its acquisition of Fin (formerly Intercom) on 10 September 2026. That is category news about who owns a common suite agent. Public Fin Voice help still describes sales-partnered availability; we did not find a Voice packaging change the same week.
If the phone is in scope, use best AI customer support that also answers the phone (stack + pilot). If you are shopping a widget that must also pick up, use best AI chatbot that also answers the phone. Product hub: AI customer support. Vocabulary: chatbot vs AI agent.
This URL stays on what “software” has to include so a chat-only tool does not win the category by default.
What belongs in the box
- An inbox — Salesforce, Zendesk, Gorgias, or Guzli’s own help desk. Someone has to own the leftover tickets.
- AI on your content — help articles and prior solved tickets, not a generic FAQ pack.
- Website live chat — the storefront or site widget.
- The other channels you actually publish — email, SMS, Slack, WhatsApp. Publish only what you run.
- Inbound phone, if callers exist — same knowledge base as chat, or you will buy a second product. How: Can AI answer phone calls?.
When you connect commerce, that is Shopify, Stripe, BigCommerce, WooCommerce, or PrestaShop — plus Calendly, HubSpot, or Zapier if you use them. Named tools only. Not “every integration.” Confirm the connector on the vendor’s live page for your workspace: Fin actions only if Shopify is on that Fin account; Forethought ecommerce APIs only if they are on the quote; Guzli’s Shopify integration is storefront context on the widget and the line, not an App Store app.
A suite can fill this box. fin.ai/pricing bills Fin at $0.99 per outcome on chat and email; Deploy Fin Voice still marks Voice as limited to select customers partnered with Sales. Zendesk’s 4 June 2026 announcement sells Forethought across email, voice, and chat as an add-on — contact Zendesk Sales. Those are software programs. They are not a card you screenshot on a Hobby plan.
Three meters show up in those same public pages. Seats (helpdesk humans). Outcomes (Fin $0.99; Sierra and Forethought describe outcome-based components). Per-minute voice (Guzli Standard/Pro). Mixing them on one spreadsheet without naming the meter is how a “cheap AI” slide hides a second invoice.
Guzli (/pricing/, 19 September 2026): Hobby at $49/mo for chat-only. Standard at $149 + 16¢/min (talk 16¢/min, transfer 5¢/min, 3 concurrent). Pro at $499 + 14¢/min (talk 14¢/min, transfer 4¢/min, 8 concurrent). Widget plus inbound on Standard+. Tickets back to the desk you keep. Not a Shopify App Store app. Published pricing does not list HIPAA, a dedicated virtual private cloud (VPC), or self-host; industry landing pages claim HIPAA — confirm with Guzli before treating protected health information (PHI) as in scope.
What is not this category
Phone-only answering services (Rosie, Smith.ai, Upfirst) — best AI answering service. They are not support software for the website.
Enterprise agent programs (Sierra, Decagon, Ada) — a services build, not a software card you publish this week. Sierra describes outcome-based pricing and Ghostwriter on its homepage. Decagon Voice lists 70+ languages on Amazon Connect or RingCentral. Those are vendor pages, not a bake-off. Nearby pairwise: Sierra AI vs a chat + phone AI agent, Decagon AI vs a chat + phone AI agent.
A chat widget with no ticket path — that is a lead magnet, not customer support software.
Worked path (desk research)
A Shopify operator already has Zendesk. Shoppers type where-is-my-order (WISMO) in a theme widget and dial the number on the box. Those two surfaces disagree. Tickets stay in Zendesk. Macros, solved-ticket history, and suite voice product codes do not automatically transfer to a new front line. The missing piece is one knowledge base on the widget and the inbound store number (the direct-inward-dial line, or DID) — not another vendor list, and not ripping the desk to “get AI.”
The usual failure is not “the model is dumb.” Intercom’s Deploy Fin Voice help says thin or outdated knowledge is the most common reason Fin escalates calls unnecessarily, and Voice Guidance is a separate channel setting from chat. Two scripts drift the same way when the widget and the store number do not share a source.
If you already bought a suite, finish that evaluation — including Fin Voice or Forethought Voice — before you add a second agent. The software can create tickets in Salesforce or Zendesk. It does not have to replace the desk.

FAQs
Is a website chatbot the same as AI customer support software?
No. A widget with no ticket path is a lead magnet. Support software still needs an inbox that owns leftover tickets, answers from your help articles and solved tickets, and the channels you actually publish.
Do I have to replace Salesforce or Zendesk to “get AI”?
No. The software can open tickets in Salesforce, Zendesk, or Guzli’s help desk. If you already bought a suite, finish that evaluation — including Fin Voice or Forethought Voice — before you add a second agent.
Does this category require the phone?
Only if callers exist. Inbound phone then needs the same knowledge base as chat, or you will buy a second product. If the phone is required, use the stack and chatbot shortlists in the table above.
What meters show up on the invoice?
Three, and they are not interchangeable. Seats bill help-desk humans. Outcomes bill billed success (Fin lists $0.99 on fin.ai/pricing). Per-minute voice bills talk time (Guzli Standard/Pro on current plans). Mixing them on one spreadsheet without naming the meter hides a second invoice.
