Help Scout AI vs a chat+phone AI agent
Pick Help Scout if the job is a shared inbox, Docs, and saved replies — plus AI Answers inside Beacon on the website — and a human on Aircall is an acceptable phone path. Confirm seats and AI resolutions on helpscout.com/pricing.
Pick Guzli if a small Shopify or WooCommerce team needs the same order-status and return answers on website live chat and the inbound store number, so the bot does not go quiet when someone calls.
Help Scout is a helpdesk with real web AI. Guzli is one support agent on chat and the phone. They are not the same buy.
This post is the support fork: Help Scout AI vs a chat + phone agent for ecommerce. Invoice pairwise: Guzli vs Help Scout. Shortlist: Help Scout alternatives. Do not read this as a Help Scout rip-and-replace.
The shared inbox is the strength. Admit it.
Help Scout is the human inbox a small support pod already understands. Operators see the thread. Docs (knowledge-base sites) and saved replies are why teams stay. AI Answers is the customer-facing bot inside Beacon — the embeddable help widget. An AI Agent holds knowledge, tone, and guardrails; one agent can power more than one Beacon. Agents do not act independently. They operate only within the permissions you set.
That is the right product when written help on the site is the job: Beacon, Docs, live chat, and — on the Standard card — SMS, WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook Messenger.
Guzli does not replace that inbox. It sits in front for website live chat and inbound phone. Train on help articles, the site, files, and prior solved tickets plus articles from Salesforce, Zendesk, or the ticketing CRM you keep. There is no Help Scout conversation-history importer. Handoff opens a ticket in Salesforce, Zendesk, or Guzli’s own help desk. One inbox across website live chat and inbound call.
Verdict: Help Scout wins when the shared inbox is the product. Guzli wins when the shopper who types and the shopper who dials have to hit one brain.
Beacon AI is a web job. The packing-slip call is not.
Help Scout’s AI Answers / Beacon / AI Agents explainer (read 21 September 2026) is a website widget story. Beacon is the front door. The AI Agent is what the visitor talks to. Phone is not on that page.
Phone is via integration. Help Scout’s Aircall listing logs human calls — and can log Aircall Voice Agent calls with tags and summaries. Aircall’s Help Scout v3 notes say the Voice Agent learns from a knowledge-base link you supply. That is a second training loop. It is not Beacon AI Answers answering the DID from the same agent that just quoted a return window.
Help Scout’s Gorgias compare page (re-opened 20 September 2026) still says the AI agent does not work on email requests (slated for 2026). SMS is on the Standard card. External website sources must be resynced manually.
Guzli’s story is the widget and the line. Forward the existing number — always, or only on no-answer, busy, or after hours. Voice starts on Standard. Hobby stays chat-only. Cards: /pricing/. How a call runs: Can AI answer phone calls?.
Verdict: Help Scout AI is Beacon on the web. Guzli still answers when they call.
Small Shopify and WooCommerce teams that need both
Help Scout is cart-agnostic. Beacon can sit on a Shopify theme or a WordPress / WooCommerce storefront. That is a widget install, not a native AI phone agent spanning chat and inbound.
Guzli’s Shopify integration is storefront context on the widget and the inbound line. WooCommerce only when you connect it. Not an App Store app. Named tools: Shopify, Stripe, BigCommerce, WooCommerce, PrestaShop, Calendly, HubSpot, Salesforce, Zendesk, Slack, WhatsApp, Zapier.
Do not score the Beacon snippet. Score whether the typed “where is my order” and the packing-slip call hit one knowledge base — or whether the call becomes a human on Aircall, voicemail, or a second voice-agent script.
Keep Help Scout for Docs and the people queue. Pairing is the default: keep the inbox, put Guzli in front for chat and voice. Ripping Help Scout to “get a cheaper phone AI” is how you keep paying for seats and add a second brain on the line.
AI Answers cents versus a storefront card
helpscout.com/pricing (read 20–21 September 2026) publishes monthly per-user cards: Free $0, Standard $25, Plus $45, Pro $75. Pro has a 10-user minimum → floor $750/mo before AI. Annual −16%. AI Answers is listed on every plan.
AI resolutions pricing (updated 3 September 2026): $0.75/resolution on paid plans after the new-account trial, billed in arrears. A resolution is a conversation closed without human assistance. Hit the spend cap and AI Answers is disabled in Beacon until the next cycle or you raise the limit. Beacon then follows the mode you set.
Guzli publishes Hobby, Standard, and Pro on /pricing/. Hobby is chat-only. Voice starts on Standard. Overages are a billing event, not a kill-switch for the bot.
| You should buy… | If… |
|---|---|
| Help Scout | Shared inbox, Docs, and Beacon AI Answers on the website are the job; phone is Aircall or out of scope |
| Guzli | Same answers on website live chat and inbound phone; refuse a web-only AI; keep Salesforce/Zendesk — or Help Scout — as the desk |
| Keep Help Scout, add a front line | Beacon already handles web questions and callers still hit a human or voicemail — do not rip the inbox only to cover the store number |
FAQ
Does Help Scout AI cover website live chat and inbound phone with the same agent?
Beacon and AI Answers are the documented web path. Live chat, SMS, WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook Messenger sit on the Standard card. Phone is Aircall (or another integration), not an AI receptionist on the same Beacon agent. Confirm on helpscout.com if that changes.
If we only need Docs, Beacon, and a shared inbox?
Help Scout may fit. AI Answers on a known $0.75 budget plus saved replies is a coherent buy. Guzli is the wrong SKU if nobody calls.
Does Guzli replace Help Scout?
No on the shared inbox, Docs, saved replies, or Beacon’s web AI. Yes on the need for a bolted-on receptionist if the gap is the storefront widget and the inbound call sharing one brain.
