How Much Does an AI Call Answering Service Cost? (2026)
Model minutes, outcomes, or seats. Then add the chat plan if the widget is in scope. Telephony is never $0.
How much does an AI call answering service cost?
You are not buying a sticker. You are buying a meter: talk minutes, “resolutions,” seats, or a call bundle. Carriers still bill the minute. Numbers still cost money. Transfers still cost money.
Vendor ranking is best AI answering service. This page is the invoice. Guzli’s published floor: Hobby $49/mo chat-only; voice starts on Standard at $149 + 16¢/min; Pro is $499 + 14¢/min. Checkout wins if it differs. /pricing/.
Three meters, three forecasts
Per-minute. You pay for connected time. A three-minute tracking call costs three minutes whether the AI “resolved” it or not. Easy to forecast if you know volume and average handle time. Guzli voice on Standard and Pro is this shape.
Per-outcome. You pay when the vendor counts a resolution, assumed resolution, qualification, or automated ticket. Fin has used a per-resolution model on top of seats — including an assumed resolution when a customer leaves after Fin’s last answer. Fin Voice itself is an order form, not a public ¢/min card. Guzli vs Intercom. Zendesk meters extra automated resolutions; Voice AI has been documented as Talk minutes plus a resolution when the turn is verified. Guzli vs Zendesk. Gorgias meters tickets and AI automations; voice and SMS can be extra ticket meters. Guzli vs Gorgias.
Ask every vendor: what event creates a charge, and does a transfer still bill?
Per-seat. Helpdesks charge per person, then add AI. Right model when you are buying the inbox. Wrong model if you only wanted the phone answered and you have two people on staff.
Phone-only tools often look like a low monthly fee with a call cap. That is a bundle, not a seat. Overage is usually per call.
What Guzli actually publishes
| Plan | Published card | Chat | Voice |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hobby | $49/mo | Yes | No |
| Standard | $149/mo + 16¢/min | Yes | Yes |
| Pro | $499/mo + 14¢/min | Yes | Yes |
No start-free promise unless checkout shows a trial. A Free chat row with a small credit cap, if it appears, is widget practice — not a receptionist. Add-ons (extra credits, branding) are separate from voice minutes. Do not fold them into a phone forecast unless you will use them.
Free-adjacent paths: is there a free AI phone answering service?.
Four inputs, then plug your minutes
- Inbound calls per month
- Average talk minutes per call
- Share of calls that transfer
- Whether website live chat sits on the same agent, with tickets into Salesforce, Zendesk, or Guzli’s own help desk
Illustration only — not a promise: 400 calls × 3 minutes is 1,200 talk minutes. On Standard that is 1,200 × 16¢ plus $149. Use your logs. If two calls overlap often, check concurrency on /pricing/ before you promise “never busy.”
If you buy a per-outcome suite instead, replace minutes with billable resolutions and ask whether a warm transfer still counts.
Line items people forget
Number rental and porting. Outbound minutes if you run follow-up. Recording storage. Overage when you blow a resolution or credit bundle. A “do not allow overage” switch that pauses the agent. A second product if chat and phone are different vendors.
Guzli inbound, outbound, and on-site voice share the voice plan. A text-only chatbot is a chat plan. How the call itself works: Can AI answer phone calls?.
Do not mix invoices
A human answering service bills per call, per minute, or per receptionist hour. Right buy when a person on every call is the product. It will not train on your help articles and solved tickets.
A “best AI customer support agents” shortlist may price seats plus resolutions (Fin, Zendesk) or a services contract (Sierra, Decagon, Ada). An answering service prices calls or minutes. Guzli prices a published plan plus 16¢ or 14¢ talk when you want the widget and the line on one agent.
| You bought… | You are paying for… | The surprise |
|---|---|---|
| Phone-only AI | Bundles or minutes | No website chat |
| Suite + Fin Voice / Zendesk Talk | Seats + outcomes + Talk | Voice gated; assumed resolutions |
| Shopify desk + phone app | Tickets + a second vendor | Two meters, two scripts |
| Guzli chat + voice | Plan + ¢/min | Hobby cannot take calls |

Per-minute vs per-resolution is not “cheaper” in the abstract: success inflates outcome bills; talk time inflates minute bills. Open the vendor’s live page. Then book a demo if you want chat and the phone on one published card.
