Does Intercom Fin Answer the Phone? (2026)

Does Fin pick up the phone? Yes — when Fin Voice is on this workspace. Live chat is already in the suite. Salesforce now owns Fin. The Voice gate is still a Sales conversation.

Support team discussing whether their AI chatbot should also answer the phone

Does Intercom Fin answer the phone?

Yes — when Fin Voice is enabled on this workspace. Fin already does live chat inside the suite. The phone is a different product (a separately sold add-on, not the chat outcome): Fin Voice. Intercom’s own deploy guide still says it is limited to select customers partnered with Sales, on workspaces hosted in the US, EU, and Australia.

If your account team has not enabled it, the honest answer for your line is no. Callers still hit a human, Intercom Phone, or voicemail.

Guzli sells a published-plan chat-and-phone agent and wrote this page. This is desk research of public Fin/Intercom and Salesforce pages, read 19 September 2026 — not a timed call test and not a Fin alternatives clone. Suite shopping stays on that landing and Guzli vs Intercom. Pairwise packaging: Fin Voice vs a chat + phone AI agent.

The short answer, split in two

QuestionAnswer
Does Fin do live chat?Yes. That is the suite.
Does Fin answer the inbound number?Yes, via Fin Voice, if Voice is enabled on this workspace.
Is Fin Voice the same as Intercom Phone? No. Phone is telephony. Fin Voice is the AI agent on that telephony.
Can every Fin workspace turn this on today? No. Public help still describes it as sales-partnered.

Ask your Fin team the one sentence that matters: “Does Fin Voice answer this number, on this workspace, this month?”

What Fin’s own materials actually say

Deploy Fin Voice is the mechanism page: Fin on the call, using the existing knowledge base, then a handoff with context. You test in a Voice Playground, then set Fin live on a number — Simple deploy (rollout percentage on the line) or Workflows deploy (Fin inside the interactive voice response / IVR phone menu). Telephony can sit on Intercom Phone or a named third party Intercom lists, or you can forward an existing public-switched telephone network number (the regular line already on the site).

Fin Voice FAQs add the limits the brochure swallows:

  • Voice is more conversational than Fin over chat — clarifying questions, step-by-step — because a caller cannot skim a paragraph
  • A Fin Voice outcome is a person asking a question, getting at least one knowledge-base answer, then disconnecting — not the chat $0.99 “resolution / procedure handoff / disqualification” list
  • Voice Procedures that take mid-call actions (refunds, subscriptions, order edits) are a closed beta
  • How you are charged for Voice is on the order form. Contact the account owner

fin.ai/pricing prices Fin at $0.99 per outcome on chat, email, and the other listed channels (50-outcome monthly minimum on the non-Intercom helpdesk plan). The same FAQ answers “How is Fin Voice priced?” with a custom plan for select customers working with sales. Do not treat that chat/email outcome price as the phone product.

Salesforce closed the deal. Voice packaging did not flip with it

Salesforce completed its acquisition of Fin (formerly Intercom) on 10 September 2026. That changes who owns the vendor. The public Voice docs we opened the same week still describe the sales-partnered gate and do not publish a Voice ¢/min card.

Treat Fin as a Salesforce-owned product. Still ask whether Voice is on this workspace before you tell callers the AI will pick up.

Fin Voice vs Intercom Phone vs “the AI picked up”

Three things get mixed together:

Intercom Phone / suite telephony — a human (or a queue) can take a call inside the suite. That is not proof the AI answered. Fin Voice FAQs send Phone-channel questions (numbers, countries, porting) to a separate Phone article.

Fin Voice — the AI agent on the line, grounded in Fin’s knowledge. That is the “yes” this title is asking about.

A forwarded number into something else — the suite can still be the desk while a different agent picks up. That is a front line, not Fin Voice.

If a deck says “Fin answers the phone,” ask which of those three they mean.

When the answer is no (for you)

Stay with no until someone can show:

  1. Fin Voice is on the workspace, not only on a roadmap slide
  2. The store or support number actually routes into it (rollout percentage above 0%, or a live “Let Fin Voice handle” workflow step)
  3. A test call on a real intent — tracking, return, “talk to a person” — completes or hands off with context

If any of those fail, you do not have phone AI. You have a chat suite and a hope.

What to do if you need the line this month

Keep Fin as the desk if that is already the operating system. You do not rip Fin to “get voice.”

If you need website live chat and the inbound line on one published plan while you wait on Fin Voice, a storefront agent can sit in front of that desk. Handoff can open a ticket in Salesforce, Zendesk, or Guzli’s help desk. Guzli’s published numbers (19 September 2026): Hobby is $49/mo chat-only; voice starts on Standard at $149 + 16¢/min. See current plans and pricing. Guzli is not an Intercom or Shopify App Store app.

How a call actually runs: Can AI answer phone calls?. Shopify desk plus a phone bolt-on is a different shape — Gorgias alternative that answers the phone.

Fin vs Zendesk vs a published-plan agent

Fin + Fin Voice and Zendesk + Talk / Forethought Voice are suite paths. Both can reach voice. Both bill like suites. Neither is a $49 widget that later adds ¢/min on a published plan.

Sierra / Decagon / Ada are enterprise agent requests for proposal. Wrong comparison if you typed this title.

Ask the account team the one sentence again: “Does Fin Voice answer this number, on this workspace, this month?” If they hesitate, the answer for your line is still no.
