Sierra AI vs a chat + phone AI agent

Pick Sierra if you are buying an enterprise Agent OS (operating system for building and running agents): Ghostwriter and Agent Studio, inbound and outbound voice in a contact-center stack, outcome-based pricing, and a team that will own journeys, simulations, and guardrails. Retail brands already on that path use Sierra for order, return, and subscription work — confirm Shopify (or whatever commerce system you run) in the live Integration Library.

Pick Guzli if a small Shopify, BigCommerce, WooCommerce, or PrestaShop team needs the same answers on website live chat and the inbound store number this quarter, on a published plan, without an Agent OS rollout.

Guzli sells the second product and wrote this page. Facts below are from sierra.ai, Sierra Voice, and Sierra’s retail page, read 19 September 2026 — not an outcomes bake-off. Nearby enterprise reads: Ada AI agent voice + chat, Salesforce Agentforce vs a chat + phone agent.

Sierra can put one agent on chat and the phone. So can Guzli. The fork is procurement and who operates the agent, not whether voice exists.

Who actually writes the check

Sierra sells to companies that already have a contact center, a brand voice to protect, and an outcomes contract. The homepage is blunt: deploy a single agent across chat, SMS, WhatsApp, email, voice, and ChatGPT; pay for a job well done with outcome-based pricing. Ghostwriter builds the agent from standard operating procedures (SOPs), transcripts, whiteboard photos, or a plain-English goal. That is a program, not a widget publish.

Sierra’s own outcome-pricing explainer (10 December 2024) is the mechanism: you pay when an agreed outcome happens — a resolved query, a saved cancellation, an upsell — and escalations are usually uncharged. Criteria are written on the order form. Greeter or routing turns can sit on a blended or consumption meter instead. That can raise the invoice if volume is high and “resolved” is defined loosely; Sierra’s post acknowledges the invoice-fear. There is no public ¢/min card. Directory annual-contract-value (ACV) figures are unverified here.

Guzli is the other motion. Train on help articles, the site, files, and prior solved tickets from Salesforce, Zendesk, or the desk you keep. Publish website live chat. Forward the number — always, or only on no-answer, busy, or after hours. Handoff opens a ticket in Salesforce, Zendesk, or Guzli’s own help desk.

If the request-for-proposal (RFP) already says Sierra, stay in that conversation.

Worked path (desk research). A retailer staffs Ghostwriter and voice simulations, then puts inbound and outbound on the existing contact-center stack. Tickets stay in the CRM they already run. Ghostwriter journeys, voice-payment processor wiring, and outcome invoices do not move to Guzli. A three-person Shopify pod that only needs the packing-slip number to match the widget is not buying Ghostwriter. Keep Sierra if you already bought the Agent OS. Add a front line only if a storefront or overflow line is out of scope for that program.

Same agent on chat and the call — different object

Sierra Voice is not a later bolt-on in the brochure: inbound and outbound, interruption handling, over 55 languages with mid-conversation switching, sentiment-aware pacing, and payment-card (PCI) voice payments collected as keypad tones (DTMF) to your processor. Escalation carries context to a care rep. That is a contact-center voice product sitting on the same agent as chat.

Guzli’s version is narrower and more literal for a store: the shopper who types where-is-my-order (WISMO) in the widget and the shopper who dials the packing-slip number hit one knowledge base. No second agent ID. No “chat tool plus a receptionist.” Voice starts when you need the line — see AI voice agent.

Both can cover typed and spoken questions with one agent. Sierra’s voice is a contact-center channel (and payments). Guzli’s voice is the store’s public phone number (the DID, or direct inward dial) on a published plan.

Voice payments and menu-tree replacement are Sierra’s lane

If the job is “replace the interactive voice response (IVR) menu tree, take card or bank (ACH) payment on the call, sit in front of or behind the existing telephony,” Sierra is built for that. Their voice page: collect card and ACH payments entirely over the phone with no IVR handoff; card details via keypad tones (DTMF) through Level 1 PCI (payment-card industry) compliant infrastructure, routed to your payment processor. Ask Sierra how your 800 numbers, outsourced contact-center (BPO) partner, and compliance tools attach.

Guzli will not out-contact-center Sierra. Forward the existing line.

Guzli (/pricing/, 19 September 2026): Hobby at $49/mo for chat-only. Standard at $149 + 16¢/min (talk 16¢/min, transfer 5¢/min, 3 concurrent). Pro at $499 + 14¢/min (talk 14¢/min, transfer 4¢/min, 8 concurrent). Hobby stays chat-only.

Stay on Sierra when voice payments, multilingual mid-call switching, and simulation-before-go-live are the actual requirements. Those are not “add a phone AI to the widget.”

Ecommerce actions without assuming a Shopify app

Sierra’s retail page names product recommendations, then order management so customers can track orders, submit warranty claims, and request refunds instantly, plus account work to update contact or billing information, manage subscription preferences, or request cancellations — wired through CRM, inventory, and related systems. Voice payments collect card and ACH via DTMF through Level 1 PCI infrastructure and route to your processor — that is a contact-center payment path, not a theme-app checkout. Confirm whether Shopify is in your Integration Library before a deck says the storefront catalog is live. Do not treat “retail” as proof of an apps.shopify.com install.

Guzli’s Shopify integration is storefront context on the widget and the line. It is not an App Store app. Named tools only when you connect them: Shopify, Stripe, Calendly, HubSpot, Zapier. Guzli does not collect card or ACH on the call.

Sierra ecommerce is journey + integration work you configure with Ghostwriter and Agent Studio. Guzli ecommerce is a named Shopify (or Stripe) connect on a storefront agent. “Shopify” is not a tie-breaker until you see the connector.

Knowledge: Ghostwriter vs last month’s tickets

Sierra grounds agents on Help Center content, FAQs, policies, and whatever you upload into Ghostwriter — including transcripts and SOP photos. That is an enterprise knowledge loop.

Guzli’s loop is the one a three-person support pod already has: help articles, the live site, files, and solved tickets plus articles pulled from Salesforce, Zendesk, or the CRM ticketing you already run. The exception your team closed last Tuesday should be on the widget and the call without a journey rewrite.

If brand-safe journeys and regression sims are why you hired Sierra, keep them. If the pain is the bot going quiet when someone calls, you do not need Ghostwriter to fix that.

Sierra prices on outcomes as above. Talk to Sierra. Implementation and volume land on the order form. That is a storefront card versus an outcomes contract — not a cheaper-minute claim.

FAQs

Does Sierra AI answer the phone?+

Yes. Voice is a first-class channel — inbound and outbound — on sierra.ai. Confirm telephony, languages, and voice payments on your account. That does not make Sierra a published-plan storefront widget.

Does Sierra replace a Shopify helpdesk?+

No. It sits on the systems you connect (contact center, CRM, commerce). Confirm Shopify in your Integration Library before a deck says the storefront catalog is live. Guzli does not replace that desk either; it sits in front and writes tickets back.

Does Guzli replace Sierra?+

No on the Agent OS. Yes on the need for a second phone vendor if the only gap is the storefront widget and the store number sharing one knowledge base. Keep Sierra if you already bought the program.

When do voice payments and menu-tree replacement make Sierra the lane?+

When you need to collect card or bank (ACH) payment on the call through payment-card-industry (PCI) keypad tones, replace the interactive voice-response menu tree, and sit in a contact-center stack with simulations before go-live. Those are not “add a phone AI to the widget.” Guzli will not out-contact-center Sierra.
