Best Phone AI Assistant for Business (2026)
A business phone AI assistant answers the support line. Some also cover website chat from the same knowledge base. Siri is a different product. Guzli publishes this comparison.
Best Phone AI Assistant for Business (2026)
Best for a consumer device assistant: Siri or Google Assistant on the phone the shopper already owns. Apple’s help is “Announce calls, messages, and more with Siri on iPhone.” That is that person’s device. They do not pick up your support DID (the public inbound number printed on a packing slip), look up a Shopify order, or open a Zendesk ticket.
Best for a phone-only answering service: a receptionist product (Upfirst, Rosie, Smith.ai, and similar). Use this when the website never takes support questions. Separate shortlist: best AI answering service.
Best for engineers assembling voice: Vapi or Retell. You own STT (speech-to-text), the LLM (the language model), TTS (text-to-speech), and telephony. Chat is an API or widget you wire.
Best for a helpdesk or suite you already pay for: Gorgias (human Voice; Consio or Ringly for AI) or Intercom + Fin Voice when Voice is on this workspace.
Best for inbound calls and website live chat from one published-plan agent: Guzli. Keep Salesforce, Zendesk, or Guzli’s help desk as the ticket sink.
“Best” is a product class, not a measured bake-off. We did not time hold music, barge-in, or accent handling.
Guzli sells that last product and wrote this page. The other rows are desk research of public docs and pricing, read 19 September 2026 — not timed test calls, and not a sign-off for HIPAA or other regulated use (Vapi’s BAA add-on is the public card we found).
This page untangles “phone AI assistant” as a search collision (device vs receptionist vs assembler vs desk vs same-agent). Widget-first: best AI chatbot that also answers the phone. Support-stack: best AI customer support that also answers the phone. BigCommerce cart: best AI customer support agent for BigCommerce.
Consumer assistant vs business line
Apple’s Announce calls, messages, and more with Siri on iPhone help is about Siri identifying an incoming call on the iPhone so the owner can say yes or no. That is a device feature. A business phone AI assistant answers the number on the packing slip, the site footer, or the Google Business profile — not the shopper’s personal phone.
If the search was “assistant on my iPhone,” stop here. If it was “something that answers our support line,” the rest of this page is the shortlist.
What the support call actually has to do
Picking up is not the product. On a support DID — that public inbound number — the caller usually needs some of:
- Greeting and hours. After-hours vs business-hours script, language, and whether you take a message or book a callback.
- Identity. Order number, email, or phone match — or a clean “I can’t find that” instead of inventing a shipment.
- Lookup. Policy from the help center; order/subscription state from the cart or OMS you actually connected.
- Action or ticket. Refund, cancel, reschedule — only if that tool is on — or a ticket in Salesforce / Zendesk / the desk you keep.
- Transfer. Warm handoff to a human with the transcript, or a cold transfer, or voicemail. Overflow when concurrent lines are full.
- Interrupt. Callers talk over the agent. If barge-in is bad, they will hang up and call the Google listing again.
None of those are in Apple’s Announce Calls settings. An answering service that only takes a name and a callback has done (1) and maybe (5). A voice API that speaks from a prompt you never updated has done (1) and failed (3).
Intercom, Gorgias, Retell, and Vapi
Intercom + Fin. Live chat is the suite. Deploy Fin Voice describes an AI agent on a live PSTN number (the ordinary public telephone network) or a SIP URI (a Session Initiation Protocol address used to hand the call to another carrier). Availability is “limited to select customers partnered with our Sales team.” Pricing: ask the account manager; it lands on the order form, not a public cents-per-minute card. Fin Voice FAQs treat Phone (telephony) and Fin Voice (the AI) as different objects.
Gorgias. The ecommerce inbox Shopify stores keep. Gorgias Voice lets customers call the support number to speak with an agent; the interaction is saved as a Voice ticket. Phone AI is Consio or Ringly — a second product that logs a summary back into Gorgias. Desk shortlist: best Shopify helpdesk AI.
Retell. Voice-agent platform (APIs, SIP, inbound and outbound). Chat is a later Chat Agent + website widget. Retell’s widget “supports chat, voice, and callback modes powered by your chat and voice agents.” That is two agent types in one shell unless you prove they share knowledge. Pricing is usage-based on retellai.com/pricing (voice ¢/min plus chat per AI message by model). Pairwise: Retell AI vs a chat + phone agent.
Vapi. Developer assembler — STT, LLM, TTS, telephony — plus a Chat API and web widget. The widget mode documented on 19 September 2026 is voice or chat (not a third hybrid value). Chat mode is text; voice mode is voice. That is still not a turnkey Shopify helpdesk, and it is not proof the inbound public phone number shares the widget’s session. vapi.ai/pricing (19 September 2026): usage-only hosting $0.05/min; STT/LLM/TTS at provider cost; 4 concurrent on usage-only, 10 on Core; extra concurrency sold as an add-on (the comparison table lists $10/line/month). HIPAA is a paid org-wide add-on plus an emailed BAA (a business associate agreement for handling protected health information); the public card lists it at $2,000/month. Pairwise: Vapi AI vs a chat+phone AI agent.
Phone-only answering services (Upfirst, Rosie, Smith.ai, and peers) answer the DID, take a message, qualify a lead, or book a callback. They are the right class when the website never takes support questions. They are the wrong class when the shopper who types in the widget must hear the same return window as the shopper who dials. Public cards vary by vendor and change; this page does not invent those prices. See best AI answering service.
Sierra and Ada show up on enterprise lists. Sierra is an outcome-priced Agent OS with inbound and outbound voice. Ada Voice is usually package-gated — confirm on ada.cx. Wrong procurement if you wanted a published-plan front line this quarter.
Guzli trains once on help articles, the site, files, and solved tickets from Salesforce, Zendesk, or the CRM you already run. Publish website live chat. Forward the number — always, or only on no-answer, busy, or after hours. AI voice agent. Handoff opens a ticket in Salesforce, Zendesk, or Guzli’s own help desk. Named tools when you connect them: Shopify, Stripe, BigCommerce, WooCommerce, PrestaShop, Calendly, HubSpot, Salesforce, Zendesk, Slack, WhatsApp, Zapier. Not “every tool.”
Same agent vs desk plus phone vs a voice API
| Stack | Chat | Phone | Same agent? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Guzli in front of the desk you keep | Storefront widget | Inbound on Standard or Pro | Yes |
| Intercom + Fin Voice | Suite chat | Fin Voice, when enabled | Yes, when Voice is on the contract |
| Gorgias + Consio / Ringly | Helpdesk AI | Phone app | No — two products |
| Retell | Chat Agent + widget | Voice platform | Confirm — hybrid can be two IDs |
| Vapi | Chat API / widget you embed | Voice API you assemble | You wire it; not a helpdesk |
| Upfirst / Rosie / Smith.ai | No | Inbound receptionist | Phone-only |
| Siri / Google Assistant | Device UI | Device UI | Not your support line |
A shared inbox is useful. It is not a shared agent. A return window updated in the helpdesk on Tuesday can still be missing from a bolt-on voice script on Friday.
How a support call runs: Can AI answer phone calls?. Phone-only vs widget: AI answering service vs website chatbot.
How the number reaches the agent
Three common paths, none of which Siri does:
- Forward the existing DID (the carrier or office phone system forwards on always / no-answer / busy / after hours). You keep the number printed on last week’s order.
- Buy or port a number from the vendor and reprint packing slips and the Google Business profile.
- SIP / bring-your-own carrier into a voice API (Vapi, Retell) or a suite that documents SIP (Fin Voice). That is an engineering project.
Concurrent lines are a hard cap: Vapi usage-only publishes 4; Guzli Standard publishes 3 and Pro 8. Overflow is voicemail, a queue, or a failed call — confirm which.
The packing-slip test
“Phone AI assistant” is four products in one search. Dial the number printed on last week’s order. What picks up tells you which product you actually bought.
- Siri answers, or asks the phone owner whether to take the call. You bought a device feature. Apple’s Announce calls, messages, and more with Siri on iPhone help is about that owner’s iPhone, not your support DID.
- A receptionist takes a message or books a callback. You bought a phone-only answering service. Fine if the website never takes support questions.
- A voice API speaks, and the storefront widget later cites a different return window. You bought two agents (or Retell’s widget powered by chat and voice agents). Vapi’s web widget
modeis voice or chat on the site. That is not proof the inbound public-network call shares the same knowledge. - Fin Voice or Guzli answers from the same knowledge as the widget. You bought one agent on both surfaces — Fin only when Voice is enabled; Guzli on Standard or Pro.
Gorgias Voice fails this test on purpose: customers speak with an agent; Gorgias saves a Voice ticket. Consio or Ringly can pass “someone AI-ish picked up” and still fail “same answer as the widget.”
When this stack is the wrong buy
Guzli is the wrong card if you meant Siri, if the website never takes support questions, or if an engineer already owns a Vapi or Retell stack you like. Fin Voice is the wrong line item until Sales has enabled it on this workspace. Keep Gorgias if the inbox is the job; decide the line separately.
Tickets stay in Salesforce, Zendesk, or the desk you keep. The new work is publishing the widget and forwarding the existing number.
Guzli is the wrong card for HIPAA-plus-BAA, a private VPC (virtual private cloud) deploy, or more concurrent lines than Pro’s 8. That RFP belongs on Vapi’s HIPAA add-on (paid org-wide BAA; pricing lists $2,000/month) or an enterprise Agent OS.
Price and terms (USD, 19 September 2026)
| Product | Billing basis | Public number | Source / unknown |
|---|---|---|---|
| Guzli | Monthly plan + voice ¢/min | Hobby at $49/mo for chat-only. Standard at $149 + 16¢/min (talk rate 16¢/min, transfer 5¢/min, 3 concurrent). Pro at $499 + 14¢/min (talk 14¢/min, transfer 4¢/min, 8 concurrent). | /pricing/ |
| Vapi | Hosting ¢/min + provider pass-through | Usage-only $0.05/min hosting; 4 concurrent (10 on Core); extra concurrency as an add-on ($10/line/month on the comparison table). HIPAA add-on $2,000/month on the public card | vapi.ai/pricing; HIPAA. All-in ¢/min depends on your STT/LLM/TTS keys. The same page also shows a Build/Scale table (Build at 10 concurrent). Confirm which card you are on. |
| Retell | Usage (voice min + chat msg) | Model-specific chat ¢/msg; voice meters on the pricing page | retellai.com/pricing. Confirm current voice ¢/min and any LLM surcharge in the live dashboard. |
| Fin Voice | Order form | Not published | Deploy Fin Voice |
| Gorgias Voice | Helpdesk add-on | Human calls; confirm current USD in Gorgias | Voice docs |
| Consio | Credits | Separate phone-AI bill | Confirm consio.ai/pricing |
| Sierra / Ada | Implementation / outcomes | Not a public card | Ask the vendor |
| Phone-only answering services | Plan or per-call | Varies by vendor | Confirm each site; this page does not invent those cards |
| Siri / Google Assistant | Device / OS | Included with the consumer device | Not a business line invoice |
| You should buy… | If… |
|---|---|
| Guzli | Business support line and website live chat on one published-plan agent; keep the desk |
| Intercom + Fin Voice | Fin is already the suite; Voice is on this workspace |
| Gorgias + a phone app | The Shopify helpdesk already runs the store; two scripts are acceptable |
| Retell or Vapi | Developers own prompts, telephony, and (for Vapi) the Chat API |
| Phone-only answering service | The website never takes support questions |
| Siri / Google Assistant | You wanted a consumer device assistant |
The useful split. Consumer assistant: stop at Siri or Google Assistant. Website never takes support questions: a phone-only answering service. Engineers own telephony: Vapi or Retell. Desk is the job: keep Gorgias or Fin (Voice only when enabled — Deploy Fin Voice). Business line and website widget on one published-plan agent: Guzli. Gorgias Voice saves a Voice ticket after the caller speaks with an agent.
What that does not cover. Hobby is chat-only. Voice is Standard or Pro. This is desk research of public docs (19 September 2026), not timed test calls. Fin, Sierra, Ada, and most answering-service cards stay unknown until you ask them.
FAQ
Is Siri a business phone AI assistant?
No. Siri announces or screens a call on the iPhone the shopper already owns. It does not answer the number on your packing slip, look up a Shopify order, or open a Zendesk ticket. If that device feature was the search, stop at Apple’s Announce Calls help.
What does a support call have to do besides pick up?
Greeting and hours, identity, a lookup from the help center or cart you actually connected, an in-policy action or a ticket, a transfer with the transcript, and barge-in when the caller talks over the agent. An answering service that only takes a name and a callback has done the greeting and maybe the transfer.
When is a voice API the wrong buy versus an answering service?
Use a phone-only answering service when the website never takes support questions. Use Vapi or Retell when engineers already own prompts and telephony. Use a published-plan agent when the storefront widget and the inbound number must share one knowledge base. A voice API that speaks from a prompt you never updated has greeted the caller and failed the lookup.
