Forethought AI vs a chat + phone AI agent

Best for Forethought: you already run a serious desk, you want Autoflows (Forethought’s generated resolution policies) plus agent copilots and ticket triage on that desk, and Voice is on the quote — on Forethought’s own pricing grid, Voice sits on Professional, not Team. Ecommerce brands that asked Forethought for Shopify + Magento + helpdesk APIs and can take a dedicated implementation engineer. If you are not on Zendesk, Zendesk still sells Forethought as a standalone for other desks; confirm which product line you are buying.

Best for Guzli: a small Shopify (or BigCommerce / WooCommerce / PrestaShop) team that needs the same “where is my order?” and return answers on website live chat and the inbound store number, on a published plan, while Zendesk or Salesforce stays the inbox.

Guzli sells the second product and wrote this page. Facts below are from Zendesk’s acquisition close, the 4 June 2026 add-on announcement, About Forethought AI agents, and Forethought’s Voice and ecommerce pages, read 19 September 2026 — not a deflection bake-off.

The switch/shortlist landing is Forethought alternatives. Nearby suite forks: Does Intercom Fin answer the phone?, Ada AI agent voice + chat.

You are buying a Zendesk-sold suite, not a widget

Zendesk completed the Forethought acquisition on 26 March 2026. On 4 June 2026 it opened Forethought AI agents by Zendesk as an add-on for Zendesk customers, across email, voice, and chat. That is one product line. If you are not on Zendesk, Zendesk still says Forethought is available to purchase and can sit on Salesforce or Intercom — a second product line. Confirm channels on that quote; standalone marketing still lists SMS, Slack, mobile, and API in places the add-on announcement does not.

About Forethought AI agents lists the pieces: Solve (customer-facing Autoflows), Assist (Chrome-extension copilot, add-on), Triage (intent and routing, add-on), Discover, Agent QA, AI QA, analytics, multibrand. Several of those are marked add-on. Solve is the bit that talks to shoppers. The rest is how a large support org runs.

Guzli does not replace Assist, Triage, or QA rubrics. It is the front line: website live chat and inbound call on one knowledge base. Handoff opens a ticket in Salesforce, Zendesk, or Guzli’s own help desk.

If the request for proposal is “copilot + triage + Solve,” stay with Zendesk Sales.

Autoflows on historical tickets vs train-and-publish

Forethought’s Solve story: train on historical support data, generate Autoflow policies, fill knowledge gaps, resolve from greeting to action — they say “no decision tree.” Their ecommerce page says both Go Live in Days, Not Months and launch in under 30 days with a dedicated implementation engineer. Those are the same page. Confirm the calendar with Zendesk; it is not a self-serve published Hobby plan.

Guzli’s loop is the one a three-person pod already has. Help articles, the site, files, and solved tickets from Salesforce, Zendesk, or the CRM ticketing you keep. Publish the widget. Forward the number — always, or only on no-answer, busy, or after hours.

Both learn from tickets. Forethought turns that history into an Autoflow program. Guzli puts it on the widget and the line.

Worked path (desk research). Zendesk is already the operating system. You buy Solve + Assist from your account executive. Tickets stay in Zendesk. Autoflows, Assist drafts, and Triage routing do not move to Guzli. Callers still hit the old phone menu until Voice is on the paper. The new work, if the gap is the packing-slip number this week, is publishing a storefront widget and forwarding that store number — not ripping Forethought.

Voice is a Solve channel on the telephony you keep

Forethought Voice is real product: Autoflows on the call, brand voice and language controls, handoff into Zendesk, Salesforce, or Intercom with conversation history. They say it sits on the phone system and contact center you already have. Zendesk’s June announcement groups Forethought across email, voice, and chat.

Confirm Voice is on your Forethought / Zendesk paper before a deck says the 800 number is covered. forethought.ai/pricing (19 September 2026) puts “AI agents for chat and mobile” on Team and adds “AI agents for email, voice, and Slack” on Professional. Pricing is a platform fee plus an outcome-based component; they offer a proof of value, not a public free trial. Suite-gated is not “Forethought cannot do voice.” It is “ask before you plan the store number around it.”

Guzli (current plans and pricing, 19 September 2026): Hobby at $49/mo for chat-only. Standard at $149 + 16¢/min (talk 16¢/min, transfer 5¢/min, 3 concurrent calls). Pro at $499 + 14¢/min (talk 14¢/min, transfer 4¢/min, 8 concurrent). How a call runs: Can AI answer phone calls?.

Forethought voice is Solve on your contact center. Guzli voice is the store number on a published plan you can screenshot.

Shopify is an API on an ecommerce suite page

Forethought’s ecommerce page names Shopify, Magento, Salesforce, and the helpdesk over secure APIs — shopper data, order info, and support workflows stay in sync. A FAQ on that page also names BigCommerce. Voice sits on the phone system and contact center you already have; a handoff carries conversation history into Zendesk, Salesforce, or Intercom. Assist is a Chrome-extension copilot (add-on). Setup on their ecommerce page is a dedicated implementation engineer and a launch in under 30 days. That is enterprise commerce wiring plus a widget, not a theme-app install from apps.shopify.com.

Guzli’s Shopify integration is storefront context on the widget and the inbound line. It is not an App Store app. Named tools only when you connect them: Shopify, Stripe, Calendly, HubSpot, Zapier. Guzli does not replace Assist, Triage, or QA rubrics, and it does not document Magento APIs.

The shopper who chats and the shopper who dials should get the same order truth without a second script — and without a 30-day engineer if that calendar is the actual constraint.

Who you write the check to

Forethought plans: contact Zendesk Sales. Treat published deflection stories on forethought.ai as their case studies, not your forecast.

If Zendesk is already the operating system and you want Solve inside that org, buying Forethought from your account executive is coherent. Ripping it to “get a cheaper phone AI” is how you keep paying for Assist and add a second agent on the line. Desk-plus-phone-vendor fork: Gorgias alternative that answers the phone. Enterprise Agent OS fork: Sierra AI vs a chat + phone AI agent.

You should buy…If…
Forethought (by Zendesk)Desk already serious; you want Solve + copilots/triage/QA; Voice is on the quote; Shopify/Magento via their APIs; you will take an implementation engineer
GuzliSmall ecommerce; website live chat + inbound call on one published-plan agent; keep Zendesk/Salesforce as the inbox
Keep ForethoughtIt already runs well — do not rip the suite only to cover a store number. Add a front line only if that line is out of scope for Solve

FAQ

Does Forethought answer the phone — and is Voice on every plan?+

Yes, as Forethought Voice — Solve on the call — when that capability is on the account. forethought.ai/pricing (19 September 2026) puts chat and mobile on Team and adds email, voice, and Slack on Professional. Pricing is a platform fee plus an outcome-based component; they offer a proof of value, not a public free trial. Confirm with Zendesk Sales before you plan the store number around it. Suite-gated is not “Forethought cannot do voice.”

Does Guzli replace Forethought?+

No on Assist, Triage, Discover, or QA rubrics. Yes only if the gap is the storefront widget and the inbound call sharing one knowledge base. If you want Solve inside Zendesk, buy Forethought from your account executive.

Is Forethought a Shopify App Store install?+

No. Forethought’s ecommerce page names Shopify, Magento, Salesforce, and the helpdesk over secure APIs, with a dedicated implementation engineer and a launch in under 30 days on the same page. That is enterprise commerce wiring plus a widget, not a theme-app install from apps.shopify.com. Guzli’s Shopify connection is storefront context on the widget and the inbound line — also not an App Store app.
