HubSpot AI Customer Service vs a Chat+Phone Agent (2026)

HubSpot Customer Agent is strong for CRM-centric teams. A Shopify shop that needs website live chat and the packing-slip number as one support agent is a different buy.

HubSpot AI vs a dedicated chat+phone AI agent

Pick HubSpot Customer Agent if HubSpot already is the system of record — contacts, tickets, sequences, the conversations inbox — and the job is answering from synced HubSpot content on the channels HubSpot documents, with humans taking the rest inside that CRM.

Pick a dedicated chat+phone agent (Guzli is one published-plan version) if a small Shopify (or BigCommerce / WooCommerce / PrestaShop) shop needs website live chat and the packing-slip number on one agent, while HubSpot stays the CRM.

Guzli sells the second product and wrote this page. Facts below are from HubSpot’s public product and knowledge-base pages, read 19 September 2026 — not a resolution-rate bake-off. Nearby suite forks: Fin Voice vs a chat + phone AI agent, Salesforce Agentforce vs a chat + phone agent.

CRM context is the product

The support agent buyers mean is Customer Agent (Agent Hub, formerly Breeze Agents). Official setup (Understand the customer agent) requires at least one Facebook, WhatsApp, or live chat channel on the conversations inbox or help desk. External pages need the HubSpot tracking code. Documented actions include a password reset or booking a meeting, then a transfer when confidence is low or escalation rules fire. Credits are consumed when the agent delivers a resolution.

That live chat channel is a HubSpot chatflow on the conversations inbox — not automatically the Shopify theme widget you already have. When the agent replies in chat, visitors see “Powered by AI” in the widget header.

That is the right product when marketing and service already live in one portal: cited answers, reply recommendations for reps who stay in the thread (those recommendations do not consume credits), lead qualification on the same meter. Guzli does not replace Service Hub, lists, or the CRM timeline.

HubSpot wins when the contact record is the product. A storefront agent wins when the storefront widget and the store number have to agree and HubSpot is only where leftover work lands.

Voice: product-page minutes, knowledge-base beta

HubSpot’s product page (19 September 2026) prices Messaging at $0.50 per resolution and Voice at $0.50 per minute. A resolution, in their FAQ, is agent support with no qualifying human handoff for 72 hours — or a lead qualification. The knowledge base repeats that 72-hour rule and says Professional or Enterprise plus HubSpot Credits are required. Confirm seats, included credits, and the live card on HubSpot pricing.

Deploy docs (Deploy the customer agent to channels) still list assignable channels as WhatsApp, Facebook, calling (BETA), live chat, forms, email, or custom channels. You assign the agent to an inbox or help desk channel, set working hours (all hours, only during, or only outside), and can limit conversation coverage to a percentage while you watch escalations. If credits run out, the agent stops taking new conversations until the reset or you buy more.

Those deploy docs, in the snapshot we read, do not say you can forward an existing packing-slip number onto Customer Agent, and they do not name Twilio. Treat calling as a HubSpot inbox channel that is still labeled beta. Confirm it is on this portal, for this number, this month.

Until that assignment is live on the number printed on the box, the store line is a separate project.

Guzli voice is the published-plan path: forward the existing line — always, or only on no-answer, busy, or after hours. Voice minutes are on Standard and Pro; Hobby is chat-only. See current plans and pricing. Call loop: Can AI answer phone calls?.

Worked path (desk research). A direct-to-consumer brand already running Service Hub assigns Customer Agent to a HubSpot live chatflow and email. Callers still hit a number that is not assigned to the calling-beta channel, or the beta is off. Tickets stay in HubSpot. The new work, if the gap is the store number, is a storefront widget plus a forward of that direct-inward-dialing number (the line printed on the packing slip) — not ripping the portal. Waiting for calling to leave beta and become generally available, and staying on written channels, is a valid third path.

Shopify shops should score the storefront

Customer Agent is not a Shopify helpdesk. It will not replace Gorgias macros or native Shopify refunds. HubSpot’s product page says the agent can take action in Shopify and the CRM within the rules you set, including “sending order status updates via Shopify.” Confirm any Shopify or Stripe action on your account before a deck says the catalog is live inside the agent.

Guzli’s Shopify support chatbot page documents storefront order lookup and returns inside policy, and says Guzli is not a Shopify App Store app. The live /integrations/shopify/ page currently claims an App Store install and automated refund processing. Those two publisher pages disagree, so this compare does not treat Guzli refund write-back as settled either.

Keep HubSpot if the CRM and inbound marketing still run the company. Put a front-line agent in front when the gap is website live chat and inbound voice as one support agent. “Where is my order?” as an intent (not nights coverage): WISMO AI agent for Shopify.

Guzli limits. Hobby is chat-only. No US health-privacy (HIPAA) coverage, no dedicated private cloud, and no self-host. Guzli does not replace Service Hub, Agent Hub, lists, or HubSpot Credits accounting.

Credits versus a storefront card

The honest comparison is CRM subscription plus a resolution/minute meter versus a storefront card. Guzli (/pricing/, 19 September 2026): Hobby at $49/mo for chat-only. Standard at $149 + 16¢/min (talk 16¢/min, transfer 5¢/min, 3 concurrent). Pro at $499 + 14¢/min (talk 14¢/min, transfer 4¢/min, 8 concurrent).

Ripping HubSpot to “get a cheaper phone AI” is how you keep paying for the portal and add a second agent. Stay on Customer Agent when the inbox already works and voice is (or will be) on the calling channel.

FAQ

Can HubSpot Customer Agent cover live chat and inbound phone today? Chat, email, WhatsApp, and Facebook are documented written deploy targets. The product page prices Voice at $0.50 per minute and Messaging at $0.50 per resolution. Deploy docs still list calling as beta on an inbox or help-desk channel. Confirm it is assigned to your number this month before treating the packing-slip line as covered.

Does Guzli replace HubSpot or Breeze (now Agent Hub)? No on CRM, lists, Service Hub, or Agent Hub. Yes on the need for a bolted-on receptionist if the gap is the storefront widget and the inbound call sharing one knowledge base. Leftover tickets can still land in HubSpot.

Can I put Customer Agent on the packing-slip number today? Not on the deploy page we opened (updated 25 August 2026). Calling is still labeled beta. Those docs do not say you can forward an existing packing-slip number onto Customer Agent, and they do not name Twilio. Waiting for calling to leave beta is a valid path if written channels already work.

Why don’t you treat Guzli refunds as settled? Guzli’s Shopify support chatbot page documents storefront order lookup and returns inside policy, and says Guzli is not a Shopify App Store app. The live /integrations/shopify/ page currently claims an App Store install and automated refund processing. Those two publisher pages disagree, so this compare does not treat Guzli refund write-back as settled either.
